What is the importance of using questionnaires in survey research?

Survey research refers to getting input from the target population. How else would data be obtained if not from questioning the population?

What is the importance of using questionnaires in survey research?
you dont question, you dont get answers. the importance is how you formulate your questions to get accurate answers.
Reply:Many surveys are actually inventories that measure something, like the Beck Depression Scale, which measures depression by asking you questions on your mood and feelings. Many researchers use the answers on surveys to measure something of the person answering the questions (i.e. depression level) and then relate it to, let's say, gender.

For instance, they may survey both men and women on depression and find out that depression levels of the women who took the survey where greater than of the men that took the survey (of course I am being stereotypical). This in turn creates either a support or a rejection of the researcher's prior hypothesis (i.e. Women are more likely to have higher depression levels than men).

In addition, questionnaires are much more convenient and time efficient in that you can email surveys to a mass amount of people creating a large sample size that can help you support your hypothesis.
