How to get Sexual Orientation on the Census questionnaire?

I emailed the Customer Service Center at the Census Bureau asking what would be the procedure to add Sexual Orientation in the demographics section (alongside race, sex, age, marital status) of the Census questionaire.

Robert Clair of the Census Bureau replied to me that it won't ever happen because "behavioral or preference issues are not really the domain or purpose of the decennial census program."

He suggested I write to my Congressional representatives and to the US Office of Management and Budget.

Wow. Sexual orientation is not included because the Census Bureau considers being homo a choice.

Any ideas of what to do in addition to contacting the Senators and Reps and the US Office of Management and Budget?

How to get Sexual Orientation on the Census questionnaire?
I don't think sexual orientation is ultimately (or rather, entirely) a choice either, but it does seem beyond the scope of the census. I'm pretty sure they don't keep track of height, IQ, or hair/eye color either, even though those are at least partly genetic and those can affect our lives and society. It would be interesting to know exactly how many homosexuals there are, I suppose, but probably not useful outside of trivia. Good night!
Reply:The census bureau is just supposed to count us. All the other crap is just making the job more expensive for the tax payers. I don't care what color every one is, much less who they screw. Just tell us how many of us there are and call it good.
Reply:Homosexuality is both a choice and 'written into the code.' It changes per person. Normally, males will be either all or nothing (written), with females having a more fuzzy zone (either). Check out farm animal studies (rams in particular) for the whole instincts thing. We've all got em.
Reply:When one gives in to deviant urges, it does not mean they were born that way, it simply means they have given in to deviant urges. If homosexuality were natural, one could not change said circumstance, yet the data is overwhelming that many have....
Reply:while we are at it, why don't you ask the census to add a question for favorite color?
Reply:I think by "preference issues" refers to sexual preference, i.e. do you prefer males or females.
Reply:Sexual orientation should not be on the census, and I can't understand your desire to have it included.

Let me make it clear, it is no business of anyones (including the government) what your or my sexual orientation is.

What was the budget last year and compare with this years to see if less or more was spent.

What can we do as a team to cut down on the budget and get opitions from drs and nurses.

Make a grid chart of some sort and follow with what is being spent diffrent colors for diffrent nurses and drs and compare who is spending less and more.
Reply:How do you budget?

Could you do with cutting down and spending more in certain areas?

I am wondering if it is possible to compare a 5 point likert scale with 4 point likert scale on SPSS? Should the scales on both of my questionnaires be the same?

On health history questionnaires, why do they ask if you've ever had surgery?

There are several reasons. It gives the doctors an overview of your health. For example, if you're a woman and you've had ovaries removed or a hysterectomy they can then rule out problems in those areas before treating someone. If a person is young and has had lots of plastic surgery, then the person could have an emotional problem. It also denotes where there might be scar tissue which is left after surgery. Most importantly, it's an insurance thing. If you neglect to mention something that proves to be important later on, the doctor will be protected if you didn't mention it. Always be honest. They've seen and heard everything.

On health history questionnaires, why do they ask if you've ever had surgery?
Generally, it is just a good question to ask during a health history, but there are certain reasons that you may be asked about it.

One reason is that if you are complaining of some sort of pain it is important to know what should not be causing the pain. For example, right lower quadrant pain is not appendicitis is a patient with a prior appendectomy.

Second, some families have a disorder that causes them to have a bad reaction to certain anesthetics. It is important to know this if you might be going into surgery, especially if you have had this reaction in the past.

Third, this could also be used to screen for a bleeding disorder. For example when you had your wisdom teeth out, did you end up being admitted to the hospital and getting transfusions.

What is the best or easiest way to select US presidential candidates for 2008?

I have been to some candidates' websites, such as Clinton, Edwards, Giuliani, McCain, Obama, Romney and Thompson but the way their websites are set up makes is too complicated to compare multiple programs. Any ideas or feedback on websites or questionnaires that can help me make the right choice for the 2008 primaries and US elections?

VOTE TO KEEP AMERICA SAFE!
Reply:I agree. I watched the Youtube Republican Debate last night and didn't find very helpful either. A lot of sound bites but a bit short on substance, in my opinion.

A friend of mine has just referred me to this site called Select2008.com. You should check it out. It is very functional and easy to use.

You can select the candidates you have in mind for the 2008 Presidential elections (for instance Clinton, Giuliani, Obama, etc.). I believe you can compare 6 candidates at a time. You can also select the issues you are interested in, like healthcare, the war in Iraq, the environment, or second amendment rights. Select2008 will then ask you a few questions. Once you've done about thirty questions, you can review your results and compare how candidates address your concerns. It's really helped me narrow down the candidates I am gonna follow over the next few weeks of the presidential campaign.

Another cool feature is that you can invite a few friends and compare how you answer. It was a bit eye-opening but very fun!
Reply:A lot of the candidate web sites that I've been to has a section called "Issues", which has helped me to determine how they stand on particular issues that interest me. What I've done is compare those. If a candidate doesn't have that section or hides their stance on issues - I don't consider them. it's as simple as that. Try checking out Huckabee, he's my choice.
Reply:Hey, I thought I'd vote for Hillary Clinton but then checked out the select 2008 website - WOW what a surprise turns out I'm closer to John Edwards than I thought ! And it is true that I was kind of blindsighted by the fact that she is a woman, but now I'm totally for Edwards. Thanks for the tip John, I will send the link to my friends.
Reply:If you really vote on the issues rather on who has the best hair, or who appeared on the most episodes of Law and Order, you will probably find www.Select2008.com very helpful in figuring out Who to Vote for in 2008.

Select2008.com offers the unique feature that you can see how you align with your friends with regard to who you should vote for.

Select2008 gives you instant feedback on each of your votes. With each vote you cast, Select2008 calculates your relative position to all candidates and friends. The top candidate or friend is the person with whom you agree the most, on a relative basis. Candidates and friends are ordered in descending order from left to right. Their relative position with one another is also highlighted by the podium on which their picture rests. With each new question, Select 2008 aims to further discriminate among candidates and friends and cement your preferences and priorities.
